VISITOR CENTRE
This is an outstanding facility managed by the Department of Conservation which includes

 

• a complete range of visitor information
• two audio-visual shows - one on the history of the area and the other on the volcanic features of the park
• displays on the history of skiing in the park
• a range of souvenirs and gift items
hunting permits and fishing licences

CAMP STORE
Just above the Visitor Centre on the right hand side of the road is the Camp Store. It supplies a small range of foodstuffs, drinks, ice cream and newspapers.

TAVERN
For those who like a drink or two, a visit to the Tavern, just below the Chateau, can be an interesting experience.

CHATEAU DINING ROOM
Opened in 1929 and renowned for its classical styling and grandeur, the Chateau is one of New Zealand's most famous buildings. The Ruapehu Room at the Chateau provides exclusive a la carte dining suitable for that special occasion.

PIHANGA RESTAURANT & T-BAR
A well-frequented dining and drinking venue in the within the Chateau.

FERGUSON'S COFFEE SHOP
For morning and afternoon teas and a light lunch we can recommend, is just below the Visitor Centre on the opposite side of the road.

GOLF
The Chateau 9 hole golf course is available for the use of our guests. Bookings should be made at the Chateau reception and clubs are available for hire.

TENNIS
Two tennis courts are available for hire from the Chateau reception. Tennis racquets are available for hire.

TOP OF THE BRUCE
Just 6 kilometres up Bruce Road from the Skotel is the "Top of the Bruce" - a complex that includes two licensed cafeterias, and a well-equipped casual and outdoors clothing shop.


CHAIRLIFTS
The mountain chairlifts operate in winter and during the summer except when they are closed for maintenance. They offer access to New Zealand's largest ski field in the winter and to a range of interesting walks in the summer.

At the top of the second chairlift is another licensed cafeteria surrounded by decks on which you can relax and enjoy the view.

Sunscreen and warm clothing are necessary at any time of the year.
